CONSERVTIVE REPUBLIN
I am very conservtive, I am against abortion, illigals, and i am sick of congres voting them selfes a pay raise. How ever I WILL VOTE FOR YOU,if you don't become a Kerry democrat, and do not let the Democrat party controll you. I didn't like the vice president comming to Grand Island. It was over the top. be carefull of who you invite to campane for you. Kerry did not repensent Nebraska values.
Good luck Claudia
ONE MAN CREWS
I certainly share your concern about one-man crews, Mona. It may be true that, in perfect conditions, a freight train can be operated by a single person. But last I checked, America's aging railways could hardly be described as "perfect." In 2005 alone, there were 3,152 train accidents and 2,256 derailments. In the event of an emergency like this, there isn't much a single person can do. Furthermore, there is ample evidence today that terrorists would like to target our railways, or perhaps even hijack a train and turn it into a weapon of mass destruction. Our best defense against this scenario, I believe, is the vigilance of railway crews. These folks know their train and they know their route. If anything out of the ordinary is going on, they will notice it and report it. Personally, I believe that two-man crews can maintain a level of alertness and attention to detail that one person working alone cannot hope to match.

ONE MAN TRAINS
I too am concerned about the railroad going to one man trains or even unmanned trains. Not only could these employees help in a derailment or accident at a crossing, if the sole person on the train had a heart attack or some other medical problem, the other person on the train could conceivably save them. With just one person on a train he might as well forget it. Help could never get to this person in time. The railroad lobbyists are powerful because the railroads have unlimited funds to spend on this issue. There needs to be more said about this issue in the newspapers and television. Scott, in areas like North Platte, Alliance, Morrill, etc. this would be a good item to talk about.

GENUINE CONCERN ON VOTER INVOLVEMENT.
I am really concerned that voters will just vote their party this election and not take the time to do the research in order to vote for the better candidate (Scott!). It would be so depressing to have Smith elected just because people didn't know enough about Scott. I witnessed the debate at Boys' State in Lincoln and Scott picked up a lot of support from people who didn't know him beforehand. Go Scott!!

I BET THIS COMMENT ON KERREY WON'T MAKE IT ON YOUR BLOG
I'm sure the censors that "review" my comment will nix this right away but what the heck. Scott, since you carted Bob Kerrey out for a fundraiser, will you match his voting record of voting against what Nebraskans wished and instead vote the way the left wing libs like Nancy Pelosi want you to vote?
VOTE!
I only wish I lived in your district so I could vote for you. The third district needs someone like you!

THE COWBOY & THE YUPPIE
As both a Cowboy and a Politician, I though Scott & Friends might find this JOKE entertaining.
A western Nebraska cowboy was herding his cows in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses, and a YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?"
The cowboy looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?" The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite. That scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany. Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response. Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."
"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says the cowboy. He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car. Then the cowboy says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"
The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"
"You're a Congressman for the U.S. Government", says the cowboy.
"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"
"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about cows. Now give me back my dog."
THE ENVIRONMENT
The 3rd District is rich with abundant natural beauty and natural resources: the Sandhills, scenic rivers, Pine Ridge, Wildcat Hills, and high plains grasslands to name but a few. These resources and those found throughout Nebraska and, indeed, the Nation, need protection. Protection from unmanaged development and further fragmentation. We need to protect, and to the degree we can, restore, clean water, clean air and abundant wildlife habitat. Protection of these resources, be it on private lands or public reserves, is a priority for me. We have already burdened our children's children with great financial debt, let us not also take away their natural-wonders birthright. Thank you. Good Luck

MY HEART'S IN THE 3RD
I no longer live in the 3rd District, but I grew up there and still think of it as home -- and I'm very protective. I donated to Scott's campaign because I believe he is the best choice to represent the people and the land who are so dear to me. We need the strong, intelligent, not-mired-in-politics voice that Scott brings to the table. Scott, if I could vote for you I would, but you'll have my vote in spirit.
THE BORDER CRISIS
There are many views on the subject of illegal immigration. I would like to point out a police story on the subject. It is a book written by former Los Angeles police detective Joseph Wambaugh called "Lines and Shadows." This true story was an account of a Police Border Crime Task Force composed of Spanish Speaking, American police officers that operated in the canyons between San Diego and Tijuana. The purpose of this task force wasn't to apprehend illegal aliens, estimated to flow across this one border region as high as 10,000 people per week. This police unit's mission was to try to stop the rampant robberies, rapes and homicides occuring against the illegal immigrants by criminal gangs terrorizing these people at will in the "no man's land" between the southern borders.
The victims could never report the crimes to the police and the vicious criminals knew they could commit crimes with impunity against this population. This story is not pleasant reading. It is violent and graphic. This true story of this specialized squad took place in 1978. The head of the INS stated in 1978 that the border crisis was approaching the point of becoming "unsolvable." Border Patrol officers in 1978 predicted to arrest 250,000 illegal immigrants and stated if they were to achieve capturing only 10 percent of the total, they would feel successful.
That's right, I'm talking about 1978. Please check my math, but this means every American born in 1978 has been able to vote in every municipal, state and federal election for the last 10 years.
Have they? We do need border enforcement, but we also need to realize that over the last twenty-eight years, the efforts of policing this border have been relegated to "secondary" status. This is not a "new" problem. It has simply been an "ignored" problem.
COMING REPUBLICAN CAMPAINGN TACTICS
Now that the primaries are over, the Republicans will start running commercials saying that you're "an east coast liberal who does not have Nebraska values." I hope you beat them to the punch by emphasizing that even though you weren't raised in Nebraska you were raised on your parents' Nebraska values, and it is these values that brought you home to Nebraska. If you can get that fact out there, you might be able to head off some dirty advertising that will undoubtably come.
ILLEGAL MIGRATION
I'd really like to vote for you and not the corrupt Republicans, BUT I will NOT vote for anyone who supports illegals! Please talk to David Harris about this, thanks. I still want to vote for you.

JOBS
TO MANY JOBS ARE BE SENT TO OTHER COUNTRY'S. HOW MUCH PROFIT IS ENOUGH FOR THESE COMPANY CEO'S. WE MAY LOSE MORE GOOD PAYING JOBS IF THE NATIONS RAILROADS HAVE THEIR WAY. THEY WANT TO DO AWAY WITH ANOTHER CREW MEMBERS JOB ON ALL FRIEGHT TRAINS. TO PUBLIC IS IN JEOPARDY IF A FRIEGHT TRAIN DELRAILS IN YOUR COMMUNITY WITH A HAZMAT SPILL. WHAT IF A MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY OR YOURSELF IS INVOLVED IN A CROSSING ACCIDENT. DON'T YOU WANT SOMEBODY TO GO BACK AND GIVE AID AND DIRECTIONS FOR EMERCENTY PERSONAL. THIS WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE WITH ONE PERSON TRAIN CREWS. AS THE RAILROADS SAID, " THIER FIRST PRIORITY IS THE SAFETY OF THE TRAIN.
IMMIGRATION
I'd like to hear your point of view Scott. It seems like the current legislation being brought forth building a wall is only a bandaid for a much larger issue at root...which is Mexico's poor and unstable economy that forces people to look elsewhere for work. What sort of solutions do you think are best?
CALENDAR EVENTS....
How far ahead do you end up setting your calendar. I've looked to find a time to meet up with you but it's hard to plan when the calendar isn't full.
WE'RE ALL PROUD OF YOU SCOTT!
You've made the whole family proud Scott! Go, Scott, Go!
