Kleeb For Congress Train Rolls into the Plum Creek Station in Grand Island
2006-07-27

There might not be any trains stopping at the newly-renovated Plum Creek Station in Grand Island, but that didn’t stop 3rd District Congressional candidate Scott Kleeb from rolling into the remodeled depot on Thursday, July 20.

Scott traveled to the station to meet with voters at an event held by the Friends of Kleeb organization. After an introduction by Judy Vohland of Grand Island, Scott gave an address to approximately 70 audience members.

During his speech, Scott explained why he decided to run for office and what the federal government needs to do be doing to promote domestic sources of energy. He talked about innovative practices Nebraskans are using to produce energy, such as capturing methane produced by cattle to power ethanol plants, which then supplies the cattle with feed from the ethanol byproducts.

Scott said that the choice that the federal government faces is to either invest in domestically produced energy or imported oil. “We’re giving $15 billion dollar tax breaks to oil companies, whose executives have said ‘We don’t need the money,’” Scott said. He used the example of Brazil to describe how a country can harvest its own energy. Brazil, which was adversely affected by the oil shocks in the 1970s, now exports energy because of its investment 30 years ago in its ethanol industry.
